Gonzalez, McCarthy Fuel WNC Offense
For the second straight game, Western Nevada College scored four times in the first inning, but the early offense wasn’t enough.
Snow scored seven runs in the third inning to rally for a 9-6 Scenic West Athletic Conference softball victory on Saturday in Ephraim, Utah.
Wildcat leadoff hitter Madi Gonzalez led the offense with two hits, three walks and a RBI. Cara McCarthy was 2 for 3 with a run driven in, and Heather Septon went 1 for 2 with three walks and a RBI.
WNC capitalized on five first-inning walks against Snow starting pitcher Ashley Kay. Taylor Allman, however, relieved Kay in the opening frame and held the Wildcats to two runs over the remaining innings.
Allman gave up six hits, walked six and struck out eight to lift the Badgers to the four-game sweep.
Snow scored eight of its runs against WNC starter Carlee Beck. Katilyn Covione entered in the third inning and held the Badgers to four hits and one run over the final four innings.
For the Badgers, Kenzie Rasmussen had a triple and three RBI, and Nicole Weiss homered and knocked in two runs.
The teams played three games on Friday because of a gloomy forecast for Saturday.
WNC, 12-40 overall, will conclude regular-season action when it hosts College of Southern Nevada in a four-game series Friday and Saturday at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City.
