June 2004: Cyndi Wulfing

Cyndi WulfingCyndi has been employed here at the Child Development Center since March 17, 1997. With extreme dedication and devotion to the children in her classroom, she is more than deserving of this award. Cyndi pours her heart and soul in her children. She is the Head Teacher for the "Lions" classroom. These are 4 and 5 year olds getting ready for Kindergarten. Cyndi works with the kids daily, ensuring that they will be ready for their jump into the school system. Her children LOVE her and admire her! You will never walk into her classroom, without seeing Cyndi working very hard. Her classroom is very organized and very tidy! With 20 students in the classroom daily, Cyndi just does it all!

May 2004: Erich Holcombe

Erich HolcombeErich has been a valuable and dedicated employee at the college for 9 years. Erich is constantly bettering himself by continually pursuing his education. He is currently working towards his Bachelors Degree at UNR. Over the years, Erich has involved himself in different committees at WNCC. Erich accepted the nomination to serve on Classified Council as Vice-Chair and dutifully took over the position of Chair when the previous Chair resigned. When Erich took over, the committee was in the process of updating and revising the Classified Council Bylaws; Erich bravely stepped up to the plate and moved forward with this project until it was finalized. Erich does his job above and beyond the call of duty with a good attitude; a quality that should be admired and rewarded.

April 2004: Elvia Garcia

Elvia GarciaElvia is the backbone of the ABE Program. She ensures that the office is open promptly every day and is often the first point of contact for all of our students. She is professional and dedicated to serving the students in the ABE program. Students who seek services in ABE are from very diverse backgrounds - Elvia treats each one with respect and dignity. I often receive compliments on Elvia's behalf from our teachers in ABE. Elvia meets all their varying needs and attends to all of the little details of our program's operation. Elvia has served on the Multicultural Festival Committee for three years. She has helped out at the WNCC Golf Classic and on her own time worked at the annual Salsa Y Salsa event representing WNCC. Elvia is fully bi-lingual. She supports many Spanish-speaking students as they transition from the ESL Program to credit classes, helping them to access college resources, sharing her own experiences in credit classes and pointing students in the right direction. Elvia is a valuable asset to WNCC and especially to the ABE/ESL program.

March 2004: John Hawkins

John HawkinsJohn has bent over backwards for faculty & staff to accomplish tasks at the last minute. He has also delivered many things that are not part of his duties. And for me personally he has help me get equipment on line so I can complete my job. Fixing the equipment would cost the office monetarily if he did not fix them. He has even come to fix one machine on his day off for me. I truly appreciate his efforts.

February 2004: Peggy Stutsman

Peggy StutsmanPeggy has worked for the college for many years and has been a very supportive professional. She pitches whenever she is needed and gives 110%. When asked to run a report, she not only runs the report, but tries to figure if there is a better way. She is a wonderful problem solver.

January 2004: Liz Kappel

Liz KappelUpon hearing that the Angel Tree still had many tags left of children's XMAS wishes, Liz took it upon herself and took the last 20 tags and "forcefully" distributed them to the other staff/faculty members within her work area. Within one hour, all of the tags were claimed and now each child will receive a gift this XMAS and a smile will be on their faces as well as Liz's, since she did a good thing. May good things come to her for this selfless deed.

December 2003: Ginny Dugan

Ginny DuganSince Ginny moved into the same building that my office is in, I have been even more impressed with what an invaluable member of the staff she is. Ginny assists Bus Scharmann in his duties as Dean of the Fallon Campus and Rural Development. Scharmann says, "When I really need something done, I ask Ginny" Ginny's primary responsibility is continuing education, the development of non-credit community education classes. She works closely with private industries to develop customized training programs for WNCC. Because she always goes above and beyond what is expected, Ginny can frequently be found at her desk after hours to make sure she has completed what she wants to accomplish for the day. As Bus notes, "Ginny never says 'no' to anyone." Ginny's hard work above and beyond her duties have made the Fallon campus a better place to work and attend classes for many years. She definitely deserves to be recognized for her many contributions.

November 2003: Barbara Ford

Barbara FordBarb continues to amaze me the way she accomplishes research projects in a timely and thorough manner. She has gone out of her way several times in the last few months to assist me on tight deadlines with surveys and reporting that is important to our department. On top of it all, she's friendly without fail!

November 2003: Special Recognition Award

Special Recognition AwardFallon Buildings & Grounds: Lanny Vestey, Dennis Chapman, Dave Wooner, and Steve Murray I would like to nominate the Buildings and Grounds crew at WNCC Fallon, that is, Lanny Vestey, Dennis Chapman, Dave Wooner, and Steve Murray. These custodians have consistently and reliably have always gone above and beyond their job descriptions to provide assistance to the faculty, staff, and students at the Fallon campus. All four custodians work well as a team. This is especially evident when one of them is unavailable due to medical reasons resulting in extended sick leave. When Steve had brain surgery, the other three pitched in to help in Steve's area and ensure that services did not suffer. The same occurred when Dave was absent because of illness and medical testing. If there are special events held at the Fallon campus, whether during the work week or on the weekends, one or more of the custodians are always there to set up and put down as required and in time for the activities. What is especially admirable is the manner in which they take care of the grounds. We constantly receive comments from the public who come to the campus about the loveliness of our surroundings here at the Fallon campus. The lawns are perfectly groomed and always green in the spring/summer/fall despite the hot weather, the bushes trimmed, the weeds pulled, and the debris picked up. The crew is always willing and cheerful to assist with any request within their realm.

October 2003: Michelle Peltier

Michelle PeltierMichelle is one of those person who always works behind the scenes to make sure that the college, college faculty, staff, and students always shine in their best light. Her positive attitude and upbeat personality never fail to contribute to successful performance and outcomes for the college and its various activities. She works well with the public and those who work and attend the college, even when (and especially when) situtations are not going according to the original plan. Whenever I have worked with Michelle she has gone above and beyond what I believe to the be scope of her position. She is untiring in her willingnenss to work with all at the college. I believe that she is deserving of this award for so frequently going the extra mile in her dealings with the college community.

September 2003: Amy Gardarian

Amy GardarianI feel that Amy deserves to be employee of the month for the following reasons. Amy has been employed here at WNCC since January of 1998. She is the Head Teacher here at the Child Development Center for the Dino classroom (3-4 yr old children- 20 of them!). Amy does an outstanding job with the children, and is a positive and uplifting person on a day to day basis. She is always willing to go that extra mile, lend a helping hand, and is one of the most dependable individuals that I've ever had the pleasure of working with. She has incentive to get the job done, and always gives 100% to everyone. I get a "GOOD MORNING" with a bright smile, EVERY SINGLE DAY from Amy. The children love her and we, here at the CDC love her! Amy always attends staff meetings, fund raising events, and even headed up a very successful fund raiser here, just a few months ago, leading to a $300 per classroom expenditure for toys & other supplies for the children and teachers. Amy has donated sick leave hours to those in need (catastrophic leave), since Amy very, very rarely calls in sick, she has built up a nice accrual of hours! I can not think of anyone who deserves this award more! So, I ask that you please consider my nomination of Ms. Amy Gardarian as employee of the month (if not employee of the year)!

August 2003: Artis Briggs

Artis BriggsArtis in a member of the Buildings and Grounds Janitorial Night Crew. In essence, she is one of the people you never see, but your office areas indicate she has been there. Computing Services recently had the opportunity to interact with Artis. We (Don, Tonie and Song) had to work late (until 1:00 A.M.) on a Friday night installing new servers. We did not take any breaks for dinner. Artis saw us working and went to Albertsons and bought us chicken with her own funds and made sure we took a break to eat...her thoughtfulness to other staff members, and her ability to look beyond her own job and acknowledge another departments efforts makes her and OUTSTANDING CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE.

July 2003: Linda Jacobsen

Linda JacobsenLinda Jacobsen works for the Child Development Center. I have been able to observe her dedication to her job in this assignment. She deals with the parents, teachers and children in her care in a professional, caring, and courteous manner. She has demonstrated an ability to go that extra mile when dealing with a problem that concerns the CDC staff and/or the children in its care. She always has help to offer and a smile to give anyone who enters her office. I believe she goes above and beyond the duties as written in her work performance standards and is an asset to WNCC and the Child Development Center.
