WNC Employee Awards

Employee of the Month: 2005-2006

Classified Council selects one staff member each month to highlight his or her outstanding contributions to WNC. Anyone from the college can nominate staff for this award. Profiles of the staff members selected are sent to the President's Office and a special celebration is held in the spring to recognize the outstanding achievements of these staff.

Donna Ashby (June)

One cannot speak highly enough of Donna Ashby. Her job can be stressful at times, but Donna is always professional and a person with whom it is easy to work. Business procedures are often confusing, but Donna will always explain what one needs to understand with cheerfulness and thoroughness. It's not her nature to be rude, and she is always willing to help solve a problem in the most expeditious way. She is definitely one of the business office's greatest assets because of her way with dealing with people, and her helpful knowledge and expertise.

Lupe Rameriez (December)

Lupe is always such a joy to work with. She is always very well organized and on top of things. She does a great job and always with a smile. She is always willing to step forward and assist wherever she is needed. I appreciate her willingness to jump in and help any student who needs help with interpretation. She is always ready, willing and able to help anyone. She is awesome!

Ina Funke (November)

I am nominating Ina Funke because she is a great asset to WNCC. Not only is she a wonderful administrative assistant, she is a wonderful person! She has a heart of gold and goes above and beyond in everything she does. Many times I have called on Ina, and not once has she let me down. I know, on this campus, there are many people including students who have been blessed by her dedication and selfless acts of kindness. I have witnessed her concern for student success, as she takes time with each student who comes in contact with her, to make sure they understand policies and procedures and that they are happy with the services that are provided. It is a pleasure to nominate such an amazing person!

Barbara Ford (October)

There are few people on campus who care as deeply about what goes on at the college as Barb. She is always actively involved in WNCC events and activities. She regularly serves on Classified Council and other college committees and volunteers to mentor newly hired staff. She is a wealth of information and people turn to her for historical data as well as new ideas for improvement of events and college processes. She is always brimming with enthusiasm and throws herself into projects and she gets others excited and involved. She has a way with words and helps with the fine tuning of documents originating in Classified Council. Rather that carelessly settling on language that is good enough, she devotes her time to writing and rewriting things until the language is perfect. She adds credibility to documents and the council itself since she never settles and pushes for more.

Carrie Harrison (September)

A division is only as good as its Administrative Assistant. This is true for our administrative assistant who has been performing at a consistently high level since her arrival two and a half years ago. Carrie maintains all of our budgets, carries out correspondence, enters critical student data into SIS, assists new faculty, communicates with accreditation organizations, and works with students and the public at large. She performs her duties with a high degree of dedication to the mission of the college. As a member of classified council, she has contributed to organizing many of the classified council fundraisers.

Mark McLellan (August)

Every morning when I walk into my office I'm amazed! I have found myself frequently looking at the carpet and wondering if it was actually cleaned during the night (not just vacuumed or picked up). And I swear my desk (what you can see of it!) has been dusted. Mark is also wonderful about helping out when there is a problem. Overflow your flowerpot and ask for some paper towels - he's right there not just with towels but cleans up the mess..and with a smile on his face telling you "no worries, it's just water!" What a pleasure it is to have someone who goes that extra little bit and shows how much pride he takes in his work. He not only completes the work he is supposed to do but also pays attention to the details. He notices when one of your fluorescent light bulbs goes out. He always warns us before he cleanse or waxes the floor so that we know it will be noisy or slippery.

David Briggs (July)

David Briggs is a part of the WNCC janitorial crew. He was a tremendous help with the recent revamping of the Sedway Cafe for the new vendors this past summer. His tireless dedication to this task went well above and beyond what I would assume to be his normal duties. He always has help to offer and smile to give. He continues to be a wonderful part of, and is a tremendous asset to, WNCC. I wholeheartedly nominate him for Classified Employee for the month of July.
