2005 Classified Employee of the Month |
Classified Council selects one staff member each month to highlight his or her outstanding contributions to WNC. Anyone from the college can nominate staff for this award. Profiles of the staff members selected are sent to the President's Office and a special celebration is held in the spring to recognize the outstanding achievements of these staff.
| December 2005 - Lupe Rameriez |
Lupe is always such a joy to work with. She is always very well organized and on top of things. She does a great job and always with a smile. She is always willing to step forward and assist wherever she is needed. I appreciate her willingness to jump in and help any student who needs help with interpretation. She is always ready, willing and able to help anyone. She is awesome! |
| November 2005 - Ina Funke |
I am nominating Ina Funke because she is a great asset to WNCC. Not only is she a wonderful administrative assistant, she is a wonderful person! She has a heart of gold and goes above and beyond in everything she does. Many times I have called on Ina, and not once has she let me down. I know, on this campus, there are many people including students who have been blessed by her dedication and selfless acts of kindness. I have witnessed her concern for student success, as she takes time with each student who comes in contact with her, to make sure they understand policies and procedures and that they are happy with the services that are provided. It is a pleasure to nominate such an amazing person! |
| October 2005 - Barbara Ford |
There are few people on campus who care as deeply about what goes on at the college as Barb. She is always actively involved in WNCC events and activities. She regularly serves on Classified Council and other college committees and volunteers to mentor newly hired staff. She is a wealth of information and people turn to her for historical data as well as new ideas for improvement of events and college processes. She is always brimming with enthusiasm and throws herself into projects and she gets others excited and involved.
She has a way with words and helps with the fine tuning of documents originating in Classified Council. Rather that carelessly settling on language that is good enough, she devotes her time to writing and rewriting things until the language is perfect. She adds credibility to documents and the council itself since she never settles and pushes for more. |
| September 2005 - Carrie Harrison |
A division is only as good as its Administrative Assistant. This is true for our administrative assistant who has been performing at a consistently high level since her arrival two and a half years ago. Carrie maintains all of our budgets, carries out correspondence, enters critical student data into SIS, assists new faculty, communicates with accreditation organizations, and works with students and the public at large. She performs her duties with a high degree of dedication to the mission of the college. As a member of classified council, she has contributed to organizing many of the classified council fundraisers. |
| August 2005 - Mark McLellan |
Every morning when I walk into my office I'm amazed! I have found myself frequently looking at the carpet and wondering if it was actually cleaned during the night (not just vacuumed or picked up). And I swear my desk (what you can see of it!) has been dusted. Mark is also wonderful about helping out when there is a problem. Overflow your flowerpot and ask for some paper towels - he's right there not just with towels but cleans up the mess..and with a smile on his face telling you "no worries, it's just water!" What a pleasure it is to have someone who goes that extra little bit and shows how much pride he takes in his work. He not only completes the work he is supposed to do but also pays attention to the details. He notices when one of your fluorescent light bulbs goes out. He always warns us before he cleanse or waxes the floor so that we know it will be noisy or slippery. |
| July 2005 - David Briggs |
David Briggs is a part of the WNCC janitorial crew. He was a tremendous help with the recent revamping of the Sedway Cafe for the new vendors this past summer. His tireless dedication to this task went well above and beyond what I would assume to be his normal duties. He always has help to offer and smile to give. He continues to be a wonderful part of, and is a tremendous asset to, WNCC. I wholeheartedly nominate him for Classified Employee for the month of July. |
| June 2005 - Lisa Siembida |
Lisa brightens a lot of students and staff in financial aid daily. She has a great personality and manages to stay professional during very stressful times. Many times she goes beyond the call of duty helping other employees and students. |
| April 2005 - John March |
John March is the mail services supervisor. I have been able to observe his dedication to his job for many years. He deals with the public, customers, peers and administrators in a professional and courteous manner. He has demonstrated an ability to go that extra mile when dealing with a problem that concerns WNCC and its operations. He pursues an issue until reaching an understanding that works for all concerned. John goes out of his way to assist staff in their dealings with him. He makes sure that what we are doing is the best “plan” for both our department and WNCC as a whole. He always has help to offer and smile to give anyone who has dealings with him – which is most of us. |
| March 2005 - Warren Schader |
Warren consistently goes above and beyond what I would expect to find listed in his job duties. His endless patience never ceases to amaze me. Whether it is a software/hardware or operator problem or a user with a question, Warren is always willing to help. Perhaps his most stellar quality, though, is his non-judgmental attitude toward everybody. It doesn't matter if the question has been asked and answered 100 times, Warren is happy to answer it again without making the person feel small. He follows through and doesn't just do what we say we need. He takes the time to get to the bottom of and really understand the problem we are having --- even though we may not know the "right" words to use to explain the situation. |
| February 2005 - Julie Lewis Dewitt |
Julie is a very dedicated employee who will go above and beyond any task asked of her. Her willingness to go that extra mile is shown daily in her desire to help students accomplish their goals while working under heavy deadlines. Julie is an asset to the Admissions and Records department. She is one of the key organizers of WNCC's outstanding graduation ceremony and she is dedicated in organizing and bringing out WNCC's eclectic artists at the Recycled Art Show. |
| January 2005 - Claudia Castillo-Garcia |
Claudia is a tireless worker in our department. She goes the "extra mile" for our students with a smile on her face. Claudia continues to adapt her schedule and duties to fit whatever the Counseling office needs. She is always willing to help the students as well as the Counselors with "other duties as assigned." Claudia does not need supervision and can always be counted on to act professionally and courteously. In addition to her work in the counseling office, she has been active on Classified Council and chaired (co-chaired?) the last classified retreat. She is also a team captain for the "Walk to Las Vegas." We are so lucky to have Claudia at WNCC...and especially in this hectic office. She is wonderful with our students and so deserving of this award. |
