You know how you're always saying, "I'll do it this summer when I have more time." Well, summer's here! It's the perfect time to become online qualified at a leisurely pace in a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. The three classes you need to have in order to teach online will be offered online this summer. That's right! You can complete the work from poolside at home.

The workshops will each consist of a required 1 hour introductory lesson using Horizon Live Classroom! followed by a 7-10 days working online as a student. We'll wrap each workshop up with another required 1 hour Horizon session. Hands-on help will be available on an "as needed" basis, either in Carson or Douglas.
With Horizon Live Classroom! you can login using almost any computer with speakers and hear your facilitator and see his or her computer at the same time. If you have an inexpensive headset with a microphone (less than $20...highly recommended), you can converse realtime with the rest of your class. It's really an exciting tool and promises to have an immediate and significant impact on things like these workshops and online office hours.
The online portion of the courses are hands-on. You'll actually be manipulating, developing, or changing something. There are no papers to write and no "experts" to put you to sleep. There are reading materials and instructions posted in your class, however, so you don't get off completely unscathed. The theory is kept to a minimum. Only enough is forced upon you so that at the end of the class you can move beyond the limited "cook book" activities covered in the workshop.
Much of this is developmental in nature! You'll need to successfully complete the first WebCT workshop, "Intro. to WebCT" before you proceed to the second required workshop, "Building a WebCT Class". In turn, that one must be finished before completing the final required workshop, "Managing Students". Total time for each workshop will be eight to twelve hours, including the Horizon sessions. more...
