Web Enhanced Resources

Resources for Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Web Enhanced Class

Links to Resources

Listed below are just a few of the hundreds of documents and Web sites out there that can help you plan, implement, and maintain your Enhanced Web class. From the basics to the latest research, they're all here. Use and enjoy!

Golden Gate Univ.:

An extensive list of resources including links to guides organized by subject area. This site also contains a link to the UC-Berkeley "Web Searching Tutorial", arguably the best tutorial that I've found for searching on the Web.

UC Berkeley Web Searching Tutorial:
As mentioned above, one of the best Web searching tutorials that I've seen. I would recommend using at least part of it in almost every class as an introductory activity. It's quite extensive, but you can pick and choose the parts you wish to use.

Duquesne Univ. Mid-term Eval. Form:
A neat little evaluation form to use part way through the semester to evaluate how your class is going.

College of DuPage: Intro. to Enhanced Classes:
A very good explanation of what it means to teach a Web Enhanced class. A "must stop" destination for those of us just starting out. Also, a great place to have your students go as part of their first online assignment if you're teaching Web enhanced.

OK. City Comm. College: Enhanced Class Portal:
Another approach to Web Enhanced classes. Two things to look at, here: A) The whole feel of their Web Enhanced area. As our Web Enhanced classes grow, we'll eventually develop to something like this, probably linked off of our WNCC Online Learning page. B) Note the clear, concise definition of a Web Enhanced class. Some would call this more of a definition for a "Blended" class than a Web Enhanced, but it's strictly semantics.

OK. City Comm. College: Enhanced Class Intro. Letter:
A great example of what an introductory letter to students in a Web Enhanced class might look like.

Allegheny CC Teaching Web Enhanced Classes:
Allegheny Community College's guide to Web Enhanced courses. Gives not only definitions, etc., but explains their philosophy, instructor support, technical requirements, needed skills, etc. A really good general introduction.

Journal of Indust. Tech.: Teaching the Enhanced Classroom (.pdf):
Details the factors in setting up a blended classroom, including administration, assessment, etc. Not a bad read!

@One: Web Enhanced Courses:
Part of the state support for California Community College Faculty and Staff in Distance Education. Highly recommended. We're going to steal it if they'll let us! (grin)

Wright State Univ. Teacher Online Trng. Program:
An example of what a good instructional support program looks like. What do you think?

Radford Univ: Plan for Developing Web Enhanced Courses:
A well thought out plan for institutional development of Web Enhanced classes. Imagine...actually having a plan before you implement a program of Web Enhanced classes!

Creating Learning Moments (.pdf):
A neat article on facilitating Web Enhanced classes. Good information.

FSU Staff Workshop: Using Course Web sites (.pdf):
A super guide to teaching Web Enhanced classes. Highly recommended! Covers the entire scope from the history of education on the Web, to why we do it, advantages and disadvantages, and the nuts-and-bolts of everyday life as a Web instructor.

Rutger's Web Enhanced Portal:
A neat explanation of Web Enhanced courses. While this one is specific to Rutger's, it could be easily adapted to WNCC. This would make a good first page for the Enhanced Web section of our online learning site.

Rutger's "Using Web Enhanced Curriculum":
A great resource for implementing a Web Enhanced class. Although based on the Sociology Department and it's effort to provide Web Enhanced classes, there is a plethora of information here that you, as an instructor, can use.

Teachers and Class Web Pages :
Do you have your Faculty Web page online, yet? If not, this is a nice article on putting one up, what to include, etc.
