Delivery

WNC instructors use several methods of online delivery. All, of course, involve using the Internet.

Although used seldomly, your course may be delivered directly from the instructor's own computer. The instructor is entirely responsible for, and in control of, the class delivery functions. He or she can tailor those functions to meet the class' individual needs. There may or may not be functions like a bulletin board/discussion area, chat, online grades, etc. If your instructor chooses to use this method, he or she will provide you with the information you need to login and get started.

Your instructor may have elected to have you purchase a publisher's pre-built course. Classes in this category are usually constructed and maintained on the publisher's own server. You will probably receive a CD-ROM with your text that will allow you access to the course. You'll login to the publisher's site, enter your login ID and Password, and be given access to your class. Publisher courses usually have discussion areas, email, and chat functions. They may also provide individual grades along with the course assignments and some sort of technical support, usually via email, online help, or telephone. Depending upon the publisher, the instructor may or may not have editing privileges for the course content. As a student, you may or may not have a personal storage area.

Many of the instructor's at WNC have elected to use a delivery package called Blackboard CE6. Blackboard CE6 is a group of applications integrated into a single presentation package. No matter how many online classes you're taking, if they use Blackboard CE6, you only have one password and ID to remember. The techniques for navigating the classes remain consistent from course to course. Blackboard CE6 provides a fully integrated Discussion Board, along with secure Grade, Quiz, and Chat areas. Private Mail allows class members to send messages to each other from within the system, away from prying eyes. Students who are taking a Blackboard CE6 enabled online class are strongly urged to take a few moments and complete the CE6 Student Orientation. It will be well worth your time.
