If you're to succeed in an online class, it's apparent that you'll need access to a computer with Internet capabilities. It is conceivable that this computer can be located somewhere else other than your home. For instance, perhaps you do your assignments at work or from a public library. We've had students submit assignments from an M-1 Abrams tank in the Iraqi desert. In any case, there are a minimum set of specifications that the machine must meet. Please note that these specifications are the minimum, and particular classes may require a more robust machine. Please check with your instructor if you have any questions.
Specific software for each class will vary. Please contact your instructor for further information. At the minimum, you will need access to a word processing application capable in saving files in a .txt, .rtf, or .doc format.
Plug-ins are add on applications that extend the capability of your browser. Adobe Acrobat Reader and Quicktime are examples of these. Depending upon the course, you may be required to have plug-ins installed on your machine. Listed below are sources for some of the most common applications:

A must have for serious web users, this allows you to view documents in your classes that instructors have converted to this format.
This plug-in is commonly used for listening to audio clips that may be a part of course documents or web pages.
A high quality media player. Not usually required for classes, but very cool to have. Comes in both PC and Mac flavors.
