Western Nevada State Peace Officer Academy
Law Enforcement Training
WNC offers a 30-week, 33.5-credit program to prepare students for careers in law enforcement. The academy begins each January and meets all Nevada and POST certification requirements. Anyone interested in this program should apply for admission by November to be considered for the following January academy. For more information call 775.445.4408.
Program Content and Courses
The program combines classroom learning, practical application and physical training. Cadets will attend numerous law related classes, participate in defensive tactics, first responder, emergency vehicle operations course, DUI investigations, accident investigations and firearms training. They will also learn basic searching techniques, handcuffing methods, baton and car stops.
The program covers several categories of certification including: Category I, police, sheriffs, etc.; Category II, fire investigators, bailiffs, juvenile probation officers, etc.; and Category III, corrections, jailers, etc.
Convenient Scheduling
The Academy schedule is designed for those individuals who need to work and tend to their family's needs, while pursuing their interest in law enforcement.
Cadets will be attending training on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6 PM to 10 PM and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 AM to 5 PM. There will be the occasional exception; cadets will be required to attend training on Thursdays and Fridays (8-5) for Firearms and EVOC training.
