Western Nevada College maintains an open door admissions policy. Any individual who can benefit from instruction at the college is welcome to enroll. WNC has no pre-admission standards and does not require new students to provide transcripts of previous educational experiences. Thus, any U.S. citizen, resident alien or qualified international student who is at least 18 years of age or a high school or GED graduate may enroll in any general program offered by WNC. Admission only ensures general enrollment at WNC and does not guarantee admittance into specific programs or particular classes. For information regarding academic programs or classes, contact a counselor or the appropriate academic division.
New Students
The application for admission must be submitted prior to registering for a class.
After an application is processed students can access Web-REG to register. If unable to access Web-REG one week prior to new student registration or after 3 business days after registration has started, or if assistance is needed, contact Admissions and Records at 775-445-3277, or e-mail admissions.records@wnc.edu.
All students who apply for admission are assessed a one-time $15 fee when they register for their first class. This fee is not deferrable or refundable, even if the courses are full, dropped, or canceled. Students who submit a community education application and enroll only in noncredit courses are not charged this fee unless they enroll in credit courses at a later date.
New students are advised to read the WNC catalog and schedule to become familiar with programs, services, policies, procedures, and deadline information. New students are also encouraged to take placement exams, attend a new student orientation and meet with a counselor for academic planning. Further information can be found on the New Student Checklist.
High School Students
High school students are required to submit a high school authorization form each semester prior to registering. Academically gifted students below the junior level are reviewed on a case by case basis by the Director of Admissions for enrollment into credit classes. The Director reserves the right to request a high school transcript for verification.
International Students
International students enjoy affordable quality education at WNC. To attend students must contact the Admissions and Records International Student Officer for an (I-20) application packet. Completed packets must be returned at least sixteen weeks prior to the semester of matriculation to prepare college and federal accounts.
