Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MTBI)

The WNC counseling department administers and interprets the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to current and prospective students and faculty. The cost is $10, and includes an interpretation by a Counselor and an informational booklet. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a personality inventory, based on Jung's theory of personality type, which has been widely used in both business and educational settings for over 25 years.

Personality Types and Learning Styles
Workshops are available for students who wish to further understand their type, how the information can improve their career and personal life, and how it can help with academics and learning. For information on Personality Types and Learning Styles, please contact Dianne Hilliard at 775-445-3288 or dianne@wnc.edu.

How to Take the Myers-Briggs Indicator
You take the MBTI on your own, at your own time. The best way to answer the questions is follow your first impulse and mark the answers that first come to your mind. There are no "right or wrong" answers. If you don’t understand a question, you may leave it blank.

Carson Campus: Pay the testing fee at the Business office, located in Bristlecone 104. Bring your receipt to Counseling Services in Bristlecone 103. You will be given the MBTI to take on your own. Return the completed form to Counseling Services. Once it has been scored, you may set up an appointment to have a Counselor review the results with you.

Douglas Campus: Pay the testing fee and obtain the MBTI from the main desk at the Douglas campus. Return the completed test to the main desk. You can make an appointment to visit with a Counselor at either the Douglas or the Carson campus.

Fallon Campus: Pay the testing fee and obtain the MBTI from the counseling/students services desk in the Stillwater building. Return when finished. You will then set up an appointment to have a Counselor review the results with you.

Strong Interest Inventory
If you are unsure of a career direction, it is recommended you complete the Strong Interest Inventory in addition to the MBTI. The Strong Interest Inventory helps individuals explore career interests. There is an additional fee of $10 to take this inventory.
