Scholarships: Outside Organizations

Community and Private Organization Scholarships

Students are encouraged to contact their high school, clubs, civic groups, churches, or organizations for possible scholarship consideration. (Some examples would include: Rotary or Soroptimist clubs, etc.).

The following scholarships awarded by organizations outside the college are available to WNC students who meet eligibility requirements:

Association on American Indian Affairs (AAIA)

AAIA has a long history of providing scholarships to college students, awarding its first scholarship in 1948. Over the years the scholarship program has grown to the current eight scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students from federally recognized and non-recognized tribes.

DiversityJobs Scholarship

DiversityJobs.com's new scholarship program for diversity and minority students awards $2,000 three times annually to currently enrolled undergrads or graduate students from registered schools in the US. The next deadlines are April 30, 2012 and August 31, 2012.

Digital Innovation Scholarship

Inkfarm.com is committed to the spirit of entrepreneurship and wants to encourage a deserving student by helping them achieve their educational goals. As an online company, Inkfarm has had success in the digital world and wants to support young people in exploring the infinite opportunities that the internet has to offer.

JustJobs Scholarship

JustJobs.com's new scholarship program awards $2,000 three times annually to currently enrolled undergrads or graduate students from registered schools in the US. The next deadlines are April 30, 2012 and August 31, 2012.

LatPro Scholarship

LatPro.com's new scholarship program for Hispanic students awards $2,000 three times annually to currently enrolled undergrads or graduate students from registered schools in the US. The next deadlines are April 30, 2012 and August 31, 2012.

Tribal Scholarships

For those who are Native American, your tribe or nation may offer college scholarships. To learn more, contact your tribe or call the regional office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Sacramento at (916) 978-6058 or visit the BIA website:

Many tribes and the BIA require a "needs analysis" from your college's financial aid office to document eligibility, so be sure to file your FAFSA early.

Other Scholarship Opportunities

There are hundreds of thousands of scholarship opportunities that an ambitious student can discover. While your local library will contain many scholarship directories in the reference section, the best way to match your particular characteristics to scholarship opportunities is to search through the Internet. Students may use computers in WNC's library for this purpose. Several free online scholarship searches are available. WNC recommends:
