Description of Services and Compensation
Under an agreement between WNC and MedDirect Urgent Care, the following basic health services are provided to qualified WNC students who enroll in the student health services program. Fees are $79 per qualified individual, per semester, plus a $10 co-pay per visit.
- Unlimited office visits for treatment of minor illnesses and injuries ($10.00 co-pay each visit), such as the following:
- Cuts, scrapes, minor burns
- Breaks, sprains, strains
- Coughs, colds, Flu
- Earache, upper respiratory infections
- Fever
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- GERD (reflux disease)
- Short-term medication refills
- Skin rashes, bites
- Sexual diseases and urinary problems
- Back pain
- Headaches
- Joint pain, arthritis
- Contraception evaluation and pregnancy testing, PAP tests are extra, at a discounted rate
- Lab testing typically available in doctor offices, such as strep test, urinalysis, etc.
- Nutrition counseling by appointment
- Administration of allergy shots (Allergy medications will be the student's responsibility) by appointment
- Cryosurgery for warts
- Immunizations, both administration and vaccines: MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and Td (diphtheria tetanus). Others available at a discounted charge
- Crutches and canes are available for loan, with a deposit
Additional Services Available at Discounted Rates as Determined by MedDirect Urgent Care:
- X-Rays
- Confidential HIV testing on site or referral (information available at all locations)
- Orthopedic casting
- Respiratory treatments
- EKG's
- PAP tests
- Physical exams, if required for employment, school, sports activities or academic requirements
- Counseling services by appointment
- Screening and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases on site or by referral
- Colposcopy and LEEP on site or by referral
- TB testing on site or by referral
- Flu Shots
- Immunizations not included in the Health Care Fee
Services Not Provided by MedDirect Urgent Care, Including, But Not Limited To:
- Any procedure requiring general anesthesia
- Any surgical procedure requiring more than a simple incision and drainage biopsy, or closure of superficial lacerations
- Any acute injuries involving a major organ
- Evaluation of unconsciousness or otherwise altered consciousness
- Evaluation of child abuse
- Direct management of chronic illness
- Direct management of complicated medical illness or injuries requiring specialist's care
- All other treatments for which the professional staff is not medically qualified or for which the Student Health Center is not properly equipped
- Care of injuries sustained in automobile accidents
- Any care that must be provided in a hospital emergency room, such as chest pain, seizure, unconsciousness
