Peer Mentoring

Evaluation and Assessment Data

The evaluation and assessment process for the Peer Mentoring Program at Western Nevada College consists of both quantitative and qualitative assessment.

Quantitative Assessment

For quantitative assessment within each project we compare the "mentored group" against the "non-mentored group". To use the Math 120 example, those students who sought out mentoring in the two sections of the course served by the peer mentors constitute the mentored group for this project. The students who did not meet with the peer mentors constitute the non-mentored group. At the end of the semester, each group is evaluated on the following criteria:

  • the percentage of "mentored students" who successfully completed the course vs. the "non-mentored students"
  • the percentage of mentored students who earned a "C" grade or higher vs. the non-mentored students
  • the percentage of mentored students who did not graduate and re-enrolled the following semester vs. the non-mentored students

After obtaining this data for each project, summary data for the criteria list above is calculated to reflect the overall efficacy of the program.
