Some web browsers have additional issues and considerations for using with WebCampus besides the general instructions found on the Preparing your Browser for WebCampus page:
There is a security setting in Internet Explorer that can cause problems when you click on the link to a non-HTML file (e.g. Word document, PowerPoint file, PDF, etc.). Non-HTML files don't open up in the IE browser, although they may appear to. Instead, they download to your computer where you can either open or save them. The problem occurs because this download is blocked, which is what happens when the download setting in IE is left as it is by default.
To change this setting:
Making these changes in IE's security settings will ensure that when you click on a non-HTML file, you will be asked if you want to Open or Save the file.
Some images and menus in WebCampus may not display properly with IE8. To allow the images and menus to display you need to set IE8 to run in compatibility view mode for WebCampus. To set this option, do the following:
Select the Page pull-down menu from the IE8 tool bar and select Compatibility View Settings. Enter webcampus.wnc.edu in the Add this website box and click the Add button. Ensure that the Display intranet site in compatibility view box is checked. Click Close.
The security option for display of both secure and non-secure content has been changed with IE8 and non-secure content is blocked by default. To display all content in WebCampus you need to set you internet security options to allow WebCampus as a trusted site and allow display of both secure and non-secure content by WebCampus. To complete these security settings, do the following:
Select the Tools dropdown menu from the IE8 tool bar and select Internet Options. Select the Security tab in the Internet Options window. Select the Trusted Sites.tab. Click the Sites button. Uncheck the Require server verification box and add these sites to the trusted sites list. Entering the address webcampus.wnc.edu into the "Add this website to the zone" text box and clicking on [Add] will add the WebCampus server web site to the list of trusted sites. When finished, click Close.
Next click the Custom Level button to display a list of security options. Scan the list for the "Downloads" section and set the option for "Automatic prompting for file download" to Enable and the option for "File download" to Enable. Continue to scan the list for the option of "Display Mixed Content" (approximately half way through the list). Select the Enable option. Click OK to close the window and then click OK to close the Internet Options.
WebCampus does not work correctly with Safari 4.0 for the Mac unless you reset Safari and clear all cache and temporary files. To reset Safari 4.0:
