I. Catalog Course Description

Prerequisites: CIT129 or equivalent programming experience or consent of instructor

Teaches basic principles of data modeling and relational database design. Class is targeted for people with little or no SQL knowledge. Provides a comprehensive overview of query writing, focusing on practical techniques for the IT professional new to relational databases. Course accents hands-on learning in a Structured Query Language (SQL) and SQL procedures.


II: Course Objectives

Basic principles of data modeling and relational database design are taught. This class is targeted for people with little or no SQL knowledge. The class provides a comprehensive overview of query writing, focusing on practical techniques for the IT professional new to relational databases. This course accents hands-on learning of a Structured Query Language (SQL) and SQL procedures.

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • Understand database terminology and articulate a Web site’s database design
  • Describe performance-enhancing strategies for Web based databases
  • Create and maintain a Web database using SQL
  • Demonstrate the use and maintenance of tables in a database
  • Demonstrate the use and maintenance of tables in a database
  • Generate output appropriate to the Web site.
