I. Catalog Course Description
Reviews basic mathematics with emphasis on those skills that apply to calculating drug dosages. Includes fractions, decimals, proportions, percents, English, apothecary and metric systems of measurements.
II: Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, successful students should be able to do the following:
- Read and write Roman numerals
- Multiply and divide fractions and decimals
- Change a fraction to a decimal, and a decimal to a fraction
- Solve proportions
- Convert units within the metric system
- Convert between the metric, apothecary, and household systems of measurement
- Compute oral dosages of drugs using D/H x Q
- Compute the dosage of drugs by injection using D/H x Q
- Use the proportion method to solve dosage problems
- Compute pediatric dosages
- Calculate intravenous solutions
