I. Catalog Course Description

Studies static force systems. Topics include resolution and composition of forces, equilibrium of force systems, friction and various constraints, moments of inertia, cables, beams, fluid static, and work.


II: Course Objectives

This course is designed to introduce the basic principles of mechanics by helping students to analyze any given problem using a simplistic and logical approach and to solve it by applying a few and well-understood principles.

III: Course Linkage

ME241 fills the degree requirement for the Associate of Science with Engineering Science emphasis, for which the mission is to prepare students for successful transfer into civil, chemical, computer, electrical, geological, mechanical, metallurgical, mining engineering, computer engineering, or engineering physics. ME 241 addresses the specific program student learning objective of:

  • Teaching students the necessary skills which will enable them to properly identify, formulate and solve engineering problems
