With a new year will come new opportunities to make plans and achieve goals. For those without a high school diploma, Western Nevada College is offering an opportunity to successfully prepare for a high school equivalency exam in a very short timeframe.
WNC’s High School Equivalency Boot Camp is an intensive high school equivalency preparation class that requires just nine weeks of class preparation and one week of review, beginning Monday, Feb. 23.
Data shows that by going through a boot camp, students enhance their chances of passing an HSE exam.
“Our HSE Boot Camp is our most successful HSE preparation model,†said Angela Andrade, WNC’s Adult Literacy and Language coordinator. “After three years and 22 boot camps, it is tried and true. Students who dedicate themselves to the classes are twice as likely to succeed on the official exam.†She said.
Students have the option of attending morning or evening classes, Monday through Thursday. Morning classes meet 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; evening classes meet 5:30-9 p.m.
The official HiSet exam will be administered at the conclusion of the course. Students can also opt to take the GED or TASC test on scheduled days.
“Any individual seeking a high school equivalency should consider the HSE Boot Camp because it will prepare them to take any one of the three HSE exams available, TASC, HiSET or GED, in a short-term, highly effective learning environment,†Andrade said.
