Nearly 100 community members turned out to support Western Nevada College scholarships and academic programs at the 16th annual Western Nevada College Golf Classic on September 18. The event at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City attracted 96 participants and the support of area businesses.
Together, they helped the WNC Foundation raise more than $16,000. Proceeds will generate student scholarships and support academic programs such as Jump Start College and Applied Industrial Technology.
“We can’t say thank you enough to our sponsors and our players,†said WNC Director of Development Katie Leao.
“Without the support of our community, many of our students would not receive the financial support in the form of scholarships that they need. With your help, we’re able to expand our programs to serve not only our students, but also to continue developing the skilled workforce that will provide good jobs for our community and our state.â€
A cadre of sponsors also contributed to the event’s success, including AT&T, Carson Tahoe Health, Casino Fandango, City National Bank, Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota and Capital Ford, Dorothy Ramsdell, Eagle Valley Golf Course, Friends of PK O’Neill, Garth Richards, Gold Dust West Casino, Greater Nevada Credit Union, Independent Shaklee distributor, Michael Hohl Automotive Group, Miles Construction, Shaheen Beauchamp Builders, Sign Pro, Silver Oak Golf Course and Waddell & Reed-Amy Clemens and Stevan Lyon.
Leao said the foundation is fortunate to hold the event at Silver Oak.
“Garth makes it easy to run our tournament and he’s a very giving person,†she said.
