As students prepare to enjoy spring break, it’s timely to provide an update on what we have been doing at Western Nevada College to protect our college community. We continue to monitor the latest public health information regarding COVID-19. We do not currently have any known cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on our campuses, although we are prepared to respond.
All campuses are open and operating as usual, and we continue to serve our students and community. Should this change, we will send out messages and corresponding action plans. In the event that COVID-19 directly impacts our college, WNC faculty and administration are planning to continue classes online, primarily through Canvas.
Communications will be sent to the e-mail address that students have listed in their myWNC account. Messages will also be posted to www.wnc.edu.
Our custodial and facilities crews have been following stringent cleaning procedures, and we will be deep cleaning the Carson City, Fallon and Douglas campuses over spring break. We have hand sanitizing stations across campus.
What you can do to protect yourself and others.
As we head into spring break, please carefully consider your travel options. Avoid countries with high incidence rates like China, Italy, South Korea, Japan and Iran. Please see this link to the CDC that lists important information for travelers https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html.
If you travel to a place with high incident rates, be prepared to practice social distancing for 14 days when you return.
Practice conscientious hygiene protocols for yourself and those in your family. Wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching your face. Avoid shaking hands.
Should you feel like you are coming down with cold- and flu-like symptoms, please stay home, and contact your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Immediately communicate with your instructor to ensure your studies stay on track.
We are monitoring this situation on a daily basis and remain diligent in our efforts. For continued information and the latest updates, please reference our COVID-19 webpage that is on the WNC home page www.wnc.edu.
