Western Nevada College will host a Journey of Hope Celebration on Friday, June 6, for 35 ‘Push America’ riders who are bicycling from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. for charity.
To celebrate the cyclists’ Nevada leg of their journey, WNC will host a social gathering from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carson City campus. The event is free and open to students, staff and the public.
The cyclists representing Pi Kappa Phi fraternity will meet local residents in communities along the way, including a stop in Carson City. While cycling across the county, the riders are determined to bring awareness and acceptance for people with disabilities.
The participants will begin their cross-country trek in San Francisco. Push America also has cyclists traveling a southern route that begins in Los Angeles, and a Transamerica route beginning in Seattle, with the goal of also reaching Washington, D.C.
The Phi Kappa Phi cyclists annually raise more than $500,000 for charity.
