Western Nevada College photography and graphic design instructor Rob Petersen will celebrate the impermanence of life in “Dust to Dust,†an art exhibit that will be featured Monday, Nov. 17, through Friday, Dec. 12, at the Carson Campus Main Gallery.
Petersen’s photographs and collages will focus on life’s certainties.
“The business of photography and art are obsessed with the preservation of images and objects of art,”Peterson said. “But no matter how much attention is paid to achieving archival works of art, printed and painted images will fade and objects will crumble.â€
The exhibit will include Petersen’s recent experimental work with combining photography and mixed-media art.
“Rob is consciously breaking down barriers between media in his new work, and we’re very interested to see the results,†said Gil Martin, WNC’s director of art. “He’s throwing down the gauntlet and challenging traditional assumptions about photography. It promises to be a stimulating and provocative show.â€
A reception for Petersen is scheduled from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, in the Carson Main Gallery.
