WNC has some new rock stars this spring, and Dr. Winnie Kortemeier couldn’t be happier.
The college launched a Geology Club on March 3, welcoming 10 members during the inaugural meeting.
“We’ve been talking about having a Geology Club for a long time, and this is the group of students who did it,” said Kortemeier, a WNC Geology professor who is an adviser to the club. “They have the energy, and they just decided to start this club. I am very pleased about that.”
Club President Dustin Parker and other officers made it happen, according to Kortemeier.
Their energy is already leading to the scheduling of several events. Club members are planning a Rock and Mineral Sale on Earth Day, April 22. They will also take a tour of a local geothermal power plant and arrange on-campus speakers.
The club meets the first Thursday of the month at 3 p.m. in Bristlecone Building Room 322. Students can join the club by coming to a meeting and signing up.
