To bring awareness to heart health and to honor February being American Heart Month, Western Nevada College’s Healthy Campus Committee is welcoming an expert from Carson Tahoe Health’s cardiology department to speak on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Carmella Downing of Carson Tahoe Health’s Cardiology department will make a presentation about Women’s Heart Health from noon to 1 p.m. in Reynolds Center Room 103 on WNC’s Carson City campus. Downing will speak about the importance of a tobacco-free campus and how smoking relates to cardiovascular disease. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.
Downing will also answer attendees’ questions during the lunch-and-learn event organized by WNC’s Healthy Campus Committee. Bring your own lunch.
The Healthy Campus Committee is also planning a Kick Butts Day on Wednesday, March 15 on all three WNC campuses. Bringing awareness about the effects of tobacco will be emphasized on this day.
WNC aims to join more than 1,475 colleges and universities by going tobacco free in fall 2017.
These events are free and open to the public.
