The International Film Weekend in Carson City continues to grow and so does Western Nevada College’s role in the three-day event. The February 18-20 festival attracted more than 600 attendees, including 140 independent film participants.
Two of the filmmakers came from as far away as Southern California and Texas.
“Events like this put WNC in the news and introduce hundreds of people to our college in a very positive light,†said Valerie Anderson, a member of the committee that selected the independent films shown at Marlette Hall.
Community members viewed a record 10 independent films for free. In addition, three international films were shown at no charge at the Carson City Community Center.
This year’s festival was partially funded through a Movie Masquerade event that raised nearly $2,000. A collaboration of Carson City Library, Carson City Community Center and WNC make the weekend of free movie viewing possible.
