Double your pleasure for now on as Northern Nevada lecturer Mike Thomas will be making presentations twice a month at Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College.
Thomas delivered his last lecture at the Plaza Hotel in Carson City on Jan. 12. As a means to continue lecturing in Carson City the second Friday of the month, Thomas found a new spot for those lectures. Jack C. Davis Observatory director Dr. Thomas Herring has agreed to let Thomas use the observatory moving forward.
As a result, Thomas will lecture at the observatory on back-to-back days each month.
“The observatory is ideal as I lecture there on the second Saturday of each month already,” Thomas said.
Both lectures will be free to the public.
The quick venue solution will enable Thomas to continue his Carson City lectures uninterrupted. His next one is Friday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. and is titled “Lions of Tsavo. He will lecture about the 1898 tragedy when dozens of people were killed by two man-eating lions in Tsavo, Kenya.
The following day, Saturday, Feb. 10, Thomas will lecture about comic book hero “Flash Gordon.” The presentation will include fantastic images from the early years of movies and newspaper comic strips. This lecture also starts at 6:30 p.m.
