Western Nevada College’s softball program will honor its eight sophomores between games of a doubleheader with College of Southern Nevada on Saturday at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City. Coach Leah Wentworth will talk about each player and freshman team members will present a gift to each sophomore prior to the Wildcats playing their final home game of the season.
“It’s always tough to see them go,†Wentworth said. “By this year, the sophomores are a lot more comfortable with the coaching style and have started to make a lot of great adjustments. Generally for the girls, they buy in and work really hard. The next year is where everything clicks.â€
Wentworth and the rest of the team will honor sophomores Lindsey Ashbaugh, Carlee Beck, Katelyn Bomar, Madi Gonzalez, Andi Lee, Cara McCarthy, Jenny Rechel and Heather Septon.
The doubleheader starts at noon, with the sophomore appreciation ceremony following the conclusion of the opening game of the doubleheader.
Wentworth said the team will also honor the program’s donors with a barbecue starting at noon. Donors to the program will eat for free.
“We encourage everybody to come out for our last home games, and we’d like to pack the stands for what is always a big rivalry when we play CSN,†Wentworth said.
WNC and CSN start their four-game series Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
