Students, Faculty and Staff Honored at ASWN Awards & Appreciation Banquet

Western Nevada College faculty, staff and students were honored at the Associated Students of Western Nevada’s annual Awards & Appreciation Banquet on Saturday at Toiyabe Golf Course.

Recipients of student awards were Desirae Blunt-Lamkey, who was presented with the college’s Student Employee of the Year Award; Karla Sanchez, who was the Latino Cohort Student of the Year Award winner; and Nubia Leon-Lozano, who received the Student Veteran of the Year Award.

Other students who ASWN recognized were Dave Owens, Nursing; Sailor Mueller, Jump Start; Joanna Rowley and Luke Imeson, Career and Technical Education; and Sophia Cacioppo and Philip Klaerner, Liberal Arts.

Faculty and adjunct faculty members were also honored.

Geography Professor Chris Ryan, English Professor Geri Pope and Mathematics Professor Timothy Mayo received Academic Faculty of the Year awards, while History Instructor Noah Hanson was presented with Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award.

ASWN’s Service Award went to Angela Viera, a support specialist for the Fallon campus.

Lastly, Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society, received the Club of the Year Award.
