Lake Tahoe artist Matt Theilen shares his photography collection titled “.001%” starting Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the Western Nevada College Main Art Gallery in Carson City.
The photography exhibition runs through Wednesday, Oct. 5.
“This series of photographs is titled .001% because that is the percentage of the atmosphere that is comprised of water,” Theilen said. “This is an ongoing project of which all profits from print sales will be donated to the Environmental Defense Fund to help find new sustainable ways to live on our planet.”
This collection of photos began by Theilen simply observing the sky.
“A practice that will always be part of our collective human experience,” Theilen said. “The photographs have evolved from that simplicity to have a deeper meaning to me. Our planet’s essential resources for life are continually dwindling, and perhaps in the not-so-different future, we may find ourselves truly fighting for breathable air and potable water.”
A reception for Theilen is scheduled from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 31 in the Main Gallery.
The Main Gallery is located in the Bristlecone Building at 2201 W. College Parkway. The gallery is open during school hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
