The Western Nevada College softball and baseball programs have both seen success during the fall scrimmage season.
Through their first 14 baseball scrimmages, the Wildcats were 11-2-1, including winning streaks of five and six games.
Leah Wentworth’s softball team is unbeaten in its nine fall scrimmages, with a tie against the Nevada Lightning preventing an 9-0 start.
The sophomore-laden softball squad was notably powered by Briauna Carter’s three home runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Nevada Lightning on September 13. Kristina George has been a standout in the circle for the Wildcats, but the run production has been the story of the fall season as Melanie Mecham, Makaylee Jaussi, Dakota Robinson, Bailey Henderson, Gabrielle Canibeyaz, Kacie Freudenberger, Kelsie Callahan, Druelle Kierstead, Noa Talia, Samantha Bell, Triniece Lesky and Britni Greninger have been fueling the offense on a regular basis. Pitchers Kaitlyn Jimmy and McKell Marble have also been consistently retiring hitters.
Offensive catalysts for the baseball team have been Tim Lichty, Bradley Lewis, DJ Peters Chad Bell, Blake Morin, Riley Ingram and Daniel Nist. Delivering the outs have been pitchers Matt Young, Ty Fox, Kyle Thompson, Josh Mill, Jordan Ragan, Chase Kaplan and Jordan Dreibilbis.
The baseball team will scrimmage through late October, concluding its fall season with its annual Players’ World Series Oct. 21-24.
The softball team, playing predominantly Northern California foes, has scrimmages scheduled through November 3.
